
Deivery Harris Empowerment Scholarship
$1000 Scholarships that Empower and Support African American Students
Deivery Harris was a lifelong educator and a champion for educational justice who believed in empowering, inspiring, and supporting African American students. Scholarships in the amount of $1000 are available to EMPOWER African-American students from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
Award Amount: $1000 (multiple recipients will receive awards)
Eligibility Criteria:

Open to African American students graduating from a high school in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties

Must be accepted and enrolled in any 4-year public/private institution of higher education

3.0 minimum gpa

Video introduction and essay submission

Must submit an official sealed transcript

Only open to students graduating from high school in May or June 2021

Essay Prompt:
Your graduating class has faced historic and unprecedented events in the past year, including the pandemic , racial unrest followed by social justice movements worldwide, and a consequential U.S. election. Please answer each of the following questions to the best of your ability.
1. How have these events affected you personally and academically, both positively and negatively ?
2. What changes, sacrifices, and adjustments have you had to make?
3. How have these events shaped your perception of the society we live in and the goals you have for college and your career?

Video Introduction Guidelines:
Create and provide the URL link to a 1-2minute video introducing yourself to the Deivery Harris Empowerment Scholarship Review Committee telling them your personal story and aspirations. Be as authentic as possible! You can either upload your video through the application or provide a URL link to your video.
